State Senator Pramila Jayapal’s Statement on Today’s Texas Abortion Rights Case
SEATTLE, WA – Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision in the major abortion rights case of Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, State Sen. Pramila Jayapal released the following statement:
Today’s historic ruling reaffirms that access to legal abortion is every woman’s constitutional right, no matter where she lives. But for too many women, especially those living in poverty and communities of color, reproductive health care is under attack. We need to stop these assaults on our constitutional rights at their source, by electing leaders who will boldly stand up for reproductive freedom. I proudly fought to expand access to women’s health care here in Washington, and I look forward to taking that fight to the halls of Congress.
State Senator Pramila Jayapal, a candidate in Washington’s 7th Congressional District, is supported by NARAL Pro-Choice America, the National Organization for Women PAC, Emily’s List, the National Women’s Political Caucus, and Women’s Actions for New Directions (WAND-PAC), as well as feminist icons Gloria Steinem and Wendy Davis. As state senator, Jayapal introduced legislation to expand access to contraception for Medicaid recipients, paid family leave, additional jobs for women in the state workforce, and to improve services for victims of domestic violence. Her campaign is supported by national progressive organizations, including the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, MoveOn.org, and Democracy for America.
