We just wrapped up our second quarter of this election, and I am incredibly grateful and even a bit overwhelmed by the tremendous support you and so many people from all walks of life have given this campaign. As we cross the halfway point, I can tell you this with certainty: this movement we are building is inspiring! It’s inspiring because we are showing what it looks like to believe in a future and then work like hell to achieve it—whether that means knocking on doors, making phone calls, or giving whatever funds we can. It’s also inspiring because we are showing what democracy really looks like when tens of thousands of people get involved, with hope and belief that we can change the world for the better.
When we kicked off this campaign in January, I said that this election is not about electing me, it’s about electing “WE”— the “we” that works together for building the movement we need, powered by the grassroots and the energy of working people. So far, WE have blown through every goal we have set for ourselves. We met our incredibly ambitious end-of-quarter fundraising goal because so many of you gave generously—and some of you even gave again and again. We’ve signed up over a thousand volunteers who have connected with tens of thousands of voters in the district at their doors and on the phone. We’ve won the most incredible list of endorsements from organizations and leaders in so many different sectors of our community, showing the real power of coalition building and movement building that we bring into this campaign with our history of activism, leadership, and results.
We all know that the challenges we face are real, here and abroad. Our campaign is about staking out that ground for a strong, diverse America that works for ALL of us; an America that recognizes and rewards hard work and invests in our earth, our schools and our people; an America that leads the way in a rapidly changing and complex world; an America that believes in dignity, respect, and a seat at the table for everyone, including those most marginalized.
I am grateful to each one of you because together, we are fundamentally changing the way politics works—through our money, our effort, our time, and most of all, our belief in something much bigger than any of us can achieve alone.
We are halfway through this campaign and in just two weeks, ballots start to arrive in mailboxes. We have a lot of work to do between now and August 2nd, when the last ballots for this race are cast. I couldn’t be more thrilled with where we stand—and more fueled by your energy and your faith to win this race. Something else I said when we kicked off this campaign has become even more clear with each passing day -- we ARE the ones we've been waiting for!
So today, I just want to say THANK YOU for being a part of the movement we are creating. Thank you for making phone calls, thank you for knocking on doors, thank you for talking to your friends and neighbors about this campaign, and thank you for your financial contributions. But most of all, thank you for rewriting the story of cynicism in politics into a story of the power of regular people to make change happen.
With love and solidarity,
