CONGRESSMAN ADAM SMITH ENDORSES PRAMILA JAYAPAL IN 7th CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RACE
SEATTLE, WA -- Washington State Senator Pramila Jayapal was endorsed today by U.S. House Rep. Adam Smith in the race to replace retiring Congressman Jim McDermott. Congressman Smith, who represents Washington State’s 9th Congressional District, is the first member of state's congressional delegation to endorse in the race. He issued the following statement on his endorsement:
I’m very pleased to give my strong endorsement to Pramila Jayapal in her bid to represent the 7th Congressional District in Congress. I’ve watched Pramila work for the last 15 years, delivering real results for the people of the Puget Sound region, both as an organizer and as an elected official. I’ve worked closely with her on a number of issues from immigration reform to minimum wage, and am impressed with her ability to work towards real solutions while bringing strong coalitions together. Rarely do we have the opportunity to elect someone to the House who brings this level of vision, experience, leadership and relationships to the table. I look forward to working with Pramila in Congress.
In 2012, Representative Smith officially honored Jayapal from the House floor for her work as founder and Executive Director of OneAmerica (previously Hate Free Zone) and her dedication to the protection of civil rights and civil liberties. His 2012 statement to Congress can be found HERE.
Jayapal continues to receive the majority of major endorsements in the race. In addition to dominating the national endorsements -- having been endorsed by DFA, PCCC, moveon. org, EMILY’s list, NARAL, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and now 13 current members of Congress -- the campaign has also received endorsements by nearly 40 local labor unions and dozens of current and former local elected officials.
