SUMMER STINSON, vice-president OF washington'S paramount duty,* Endorses Pramila Jayapal for Congress

I urge you to support Pramila Jayapal for Congress. Pramila is a proven leader who founded and built Washington’s largest immigration advocacy group, OneAmerica (formerly Hate Free Zone). Pramila’s organizing and advocacy skills are impressive.  In the midst of one of the most challenging times we’ve faced as a nation, she built a movement for immigrants based on democracy and justice.  That’s proven leadership.

I’m in awe of Pramila for what she’s accomplished both as an activist and as a politician.  I’ve been burning both ends of the candle for the past year as I’ve co-founded an education activist group and am organizing others statewide to fight for fully funding public education.  This challenging experience has given me a deep appreciation for Pramila’s ability to create and lead a movement and inspire others.  She brought that same tremendous passion and commitment to progressive values to the State Senate.  Pramila confidently stood up for voting rights by writing and introducing an automatic voter registration bill.  She serves on the educational opportunity gap oversight and accountability committee and voted for the educational opportunity gap bill.

Additionally, I greatly appreciate that Pramila courageously fights for the full spectrum of progressive values.  She’s not a single-subject advocate.  She provides her bold vision on a plethora of important progressive issues: the full education continuum (early learning, K-12, and higher education), health care, women’s issues and rights, immigration, the environment, LGBTQ rights, seniors, veterans, and so much more.

Having a conversation with her or hearing her speak on the challenges we face today is truly amazing experience because she deeply understands the issues and the interplay between them.  Importantly, she offers solutions.

For example, Pramila is committed to raising the minimum wage, implementing paid sick and family leave, fighting for increased teacher pay and benefits, working to get rid of unnecessary testing, and ending college debt.  Pramila will fight for funding in Congress for the currently unfunded education mandates, which include, in part, supports for homeless students, English language learners (ELL), and special education.

Pramila will work diligently to increase opportunities for each of us.
