Jayapal Announces Position on Two Key Ballot Initiatives

Jayapal urges voters to approve Referendum 88 / Initiative 1000 & oppose Initiative 976

[SEATTLE, WA] –  U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) today announced her position on two key ballot initiatives up for a vote in King County.

Jayapal urged voters to vote 'yes' on Referendum 88/Initiative 1000, which would repeal a ban on affirmative action

“Thanks to Tim Eyman and his cohort, Washington State took a step back on racial and social equity in critical areas of education, employment, and contracting. We need to pass Referendum 88/Initiative 100 to restore fair access to services for women, people of color and veterans, without quotas,” said Jayapal.

Jayapal urged voters to vote 'no' on Initiative 976, which would cut transportation funding.

“By repealing critical transportation funding, Initiative 976 would cripple our ability to fix dangerous highways, retrofit bridges, and operate and maintain ferries. We can’t afford to devastate our already strained transportation system--we must vote no.” said Jayapal.

In addition to the two ballot initiatives, Jayapal had previously endorsed the following candidates:

  • Larry Gosset for King County Council

  • Lisa Herbold for Seattle City Council – District 1

  • Tammy Morales for Seattle City Council – District 2

“I’m proud to support these bold leaders who will fight tirelessly for progressive values and change. In this election, we have a chance to show everyone that our city and elections belong to our citizens--not corporations,” said Jayapal.

Ballots must be postmarked or in a drop box by 8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5.
