Jayapal Announces Endorsement of Bernie Sanders

Jayapal to join Sanders at rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, January 20, 2020.

[SEATTLE, WA] – U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, today announced her endorsement of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders in his campaign for President of the United States. Tomorrow, Monday, January 20, Jayapal will speak and introduce Sanders at a campaign rally in Des Moines, Iowa.

“Senator Sanders has the authenticity, clarity and passion working people need in their President. Like me, he’s an organizer who knows that the only way we win is by organizing the base, expanding the electorate and inspiring people who have lost faith in government,” said Jayapal. “I can’t wait to be out across the country with Bernie, fighting for Medicare for All and humane immigration reform, taking on corporate supremacy and the climate crisis, and speaking out against endless wars and this corrupt administration.” “Representative Pramila Jayapal has been a brilliant leader for progressive ideas like Medicare for All and College for All. She's led the fight against Trump's racism, sexism, and xenophobia,” said Sanders. “Together, we will create the political revolution to not only defeat Donald Trump but build a working class movement that transforms this country so it works for all of us.”

Jayapal will serve as the Sanders campaign’s National Health Policy Chair and as Washington State Campaign Chair. She is the lead co-sponsor of H.R. 1384, the Medicare for All Act of 2019, and H.R. 3472, the College for All Act of 2019, in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jayapal is the elected co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, one of the largest caucuses in Congress consisting of approximately 40% of the House Democratic majority.
