Jayapal Endorses Nine Progressives Running For Congress

[SEATTLE, WA] – U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, today announced her endorsements of nine progressive candidates running for Congress in 2020:

  • Dana Balter, NY-24

  • Jessica Cisneros, TX-28

  • Georgette Gomez, CA-53

  • Jon Hoadley, MI-06

  • Monika Johnson-Hostler, NC-02

  • Kai Kahele, HI-02

  • Gina Ortiz Jones, TX-23

  • J.D. Scholten, IA-04

  • Candace Valenzuela, TX-24

“Across America, voters are eager to elect leaders with experience, passion and authenticity — people who are deeply rooted in their communities and focused on making life better for all

working people and their families,” said Jayapal. “I am proud to endorse these bold, progressive candidates for Congress who are determined to take on the status quo and fight for the systematic change we need. Together, we can take on the injustice and inequality that holds our people back and reinvigorate the American Dream for all.”

Jayapal has also endorsed the following 2020 candidates:

  • Bernie Sanders for President

  • Ben Ray Lujan for U.S. Senate, New Mexico

  • Kara Eastman for Congress, NE-02

  • Marie Newman for Congress, IL-03

Jessica Cisneros, Texas’ 28th Congressional District

“Voters across America are hungry for bold, progressive change — and that means electing leaders like Jessica Cisneros who will fight for working people. An immigration and human rights lawyer, herself the proud daughter of immigrants, Jessica is deeply rooted in her community and

understands the experience of her South Texas constituents. At a time when the Trump Administration scapegoats immigrants, strips away our health care, and turns a blind eye to gun violence, we need principled activists and organizers like Jessica to fight back. I look forward to working with Jessica in Congress to build a more equal and prosperous America for all of us — one in which Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, humane immigration reform and gun safety legislation become a reality,” said Jayapal.

Georgette Gomez, California’s 53rd Congressional District

“Georgette Gómez is a proud Latina, a strong progressive and a proven leader. With more

women like Georgette in Congress, we can make a difference in the fight for a Green New Deal, Medicare for All and an equitable economy. I am excited to endorse her campaign in CA-53 – and cannot wait to work with her in Congress,” said Jayapal.

Jon Hoadley, Michigan’s 6th Congressional District

“Throughout his time in Michigan’s state legislature, Jon Hoadley has proven his commitment to the people of Michigan and the 6th District. Jon is committed to cleaning up our environment, battling climate change, expanding healthcare, and ensuring that no person is left unprotected under the law. I am certain that, with Jon on Capitol Hill, Michiganders will be heard and fought for every day and I look forward to working with him,” said Jayapal.

Monika Johnson-Hostler, North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District

“Monika has spent her career advocating and fighting for others and I know she will do the same in Congress. She is fighting to expand healthcare coverage for everyone, save our planet, and reform our criminal justice system. I am proud to support her campaign and know her experience and passion have prepared her well to be a strong leader in Congress,” said Jayapal.

Gina Ortiz Jones, Texas’ 23rd Congressional District

“I’m proud to endorse Gina Ortiz Jones — a smart, talented, passionate public service who will represent her district with integrity and tenacity in the House of Representatives,” said Jayapal. I look forward to working with Gina in Congress to improve infrastructure, bridge the divide between our rural and urban communities, expand economic opportunity to those who need it most and ensure all Americans are treated equally under the law,” said Jayapal.

J.D. Scholten, Iowa’s 4th Congressional District

“Congress needs more champions for working people and their families who understand that

expanding affordable, quality health coverage is a moral and economic imperative. I’m proud to support J.D. Scholten because he will fight for rural Iowans and work to ensure that all Americans, including those in rural, working, and underserved communities, get the health care they need,” said Jayapal.

Candace Valenzuela, Texas’ 24th Congressional District

“Congress needs more tireless advocates for working families like Candace, a mother and true public servant who will stand up to special interests in Washington, D.C., and deliver progress for Texans. I am proud to endorse Candace and her campaign to fight for Texas children and their families,” said Jayapal.
